Establishing domain membership

-Anyone know of a way to determine whether a 2000/XP Pro computer is a
workgroup-member or a domain-member, and if the latter, to determine the
domain-name, and if possible the preferred domain-controller's name?

Looked for registry entries but can find nothing relevant. The entries under
the Winlogon key reflect the last logon made, which is not necessarily the
state of the computer.

NET CONFIG displays the correct values, so it must be possible.. but where
are they stored?

Hi,
Right-click My Computer, select Properties and click the Computer Name tab.

That will have your computer description, Full Computer Name,
WorkGroup/Domain. To rename your computer or join a different domain you can
click the Change button. (This applies to XP, but from what I can remember,
should apply to 2k).

Sorry, maybe I should've made it clear that I want to do this
progammatically. A DLL call or registry access would be a suitable method.

As a workaround I could use the method you suggest by sending keystrokes to
the "My Computer" window, but that is not a very robust method, as
window-layouts sometimes change with versions.
