Errors in event viewer

Guest

I have all these errors in my event viewer under system. It says the source
is DCOM
the error logs says the following: DCOM was unable to communicate with the
computer PC1 using any of the configured protocols.
I would just like to know what DCOM is.
Thanks

This is the official Microsoft description of DCOM:

"The Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) is a protocol that enables
software components to communicate directly over a network in a reliable,
secure, and efficient manner. Previously called "Network OLE," DCOM is
designed for use across multiple network transports, including Internet
protocols such as HTTP. DCOM is based on the Open Software Foundation's
DCE-RPC spec and will work with both Java applets and ActiveX® components
through its use of the Component Object Model (COM)."

Thanks for the reply Wesley
Do you know what causes these errors, or is it normal to have them in the
event viewer?

What errors?

This one?

Message: DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer %1 using any of
the configured protocols.

Explanation
The network connections might not be configured properly.

User Action
Check the network connections. Check the registry entry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Rpc/DCOM_Protocols for the list of
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service protocol sequences.

Event ID & the Event Source are very important.

To open the Event Viewer...
Start | Run | Type: eventvwr | Click OK

For any Events that seem related to the problem...

Double click the event in Event Viewer | Click: the button below the second
arrow (looks like two pages) [[Copies the details of the event to the
Clipboard.]] | Paste into Notepad | Also click on:

This can also be very useful.

You need to have the Event ID & the Event Source. Microsoft product: --All
Products-- is usually good enough. Be careful when scrolling down in the
page so that Microsoft product: doesn't change on you.

To view Windows XP Events and Errors, type the Source (for example, Print)
and/or the Event code (for example, 20) into the ID field, then click the Go
button. Source and Event codes may be found in the Event Viewer logs.
