error with AppName iexplore.exe

J

Within the past month or so, I have been experiencing
problems with my Internet Explorer.

I will be surfing the Internet just fine, when all of a
sudden I receive the error message:
"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"

When I select to get more information, here's what is
listed:

Error Signature:
AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2600.0 ModName:
unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 8a63617e

And it says that the error is related to this file:

C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERCC.tmp.dir00
\appcompat.txt

There seems to be no method to the maddness. Sometimes it
happens when I open a site, and other times, it
spontaneously shuts down after having been on a site for
several minutes.

Also, another problem I encounter: every now and then, I
am unable to type in Internet Explorer (into the type of
box I am typing into at the moment). However, I am able
to type into all Microsoft programs which don't relate to
the interent.

I would appreciate any help.

Hi Jenni,

Very often, Iexplore/Unknown page faults are spy/adware related.
Scanning for spyware would therefore be a good start.

Please do the following:
Download Spybot - Search & Destroy: http://tomcoyote.org/SPYBOT/
It detects and removes all kinds of spyware, dialers, hijackers, and related nasties.

After installing, press Online, and search for, put a check mark at, and install all updates.

Now close all browser windows, hit 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds.
When you've done all that, restart your computer, test your system, and see whether your problem
is gone.

If it isn't, go to http://tomcoyote.org/hjt/ , and download Hijack This.

Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, and save the log somewhere

Next, go to http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/

Sign in, go to the appropriate section, press "new topic", explain your problem, and copy and
paste the contents of the Hijack This log into your new message. You'll get expert assistance in
dealing with your problem.

The error also indicates the possibility of a Trojan worm infection. Are
you running a fully up-to-date anti-virus application? Have you run a full
system scan lately (and always, after updating definitions)?

Tony,

You may want to keep an eye on this one.
I suspect T3 parasite per my message yesterday.
The file in the temp folder may be WERC? and not WERCC
