Error while Repair Network Connection attempt

Error Renewing the IP address reports when attempting to
Repair the network connection. My cable provider suspects
the TCP/IP stack XP software bug is causing this repair
operation failure. They suggested Knowlege Base Article
No. 817517 to use Regedit for making necessary changes to
the appropriate Keys... I'm unable to find that article???

Me neither. Open a command prompt and type "ipconfig /renew". This should
give a more specific error message that you can post back and get more
specific help.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and comments. I finally
narrowed down the problem to hardware configuration. (I even booted up
with Knoppix and had the same network problems in linux, so I was
certain it was hardware) basically, the dsl router/modem provided by my
isp (ZyXel 643 Prestige) for some reason lost the connection to my xp
pro boxes intermittently every 5-15 minutes. my win 98 machines were
fine. I tried all combos of wiring, etc. Disabled my gigabit ethernet
and put in a new 10/100 ethernet card, etc. I solved it by putting an
old linksys router in between the ZyXel router/modem, and running my
network off of that. Apparently the 2 routers talk to each other fine,
and Xp pro machines have no issues with the linksys router.

Try try again and eventually these pesky problems will get solved!
