Error - "The file or directory \$Secure is corrupt and unreadable"

Hello,

Microsoft automatic update gave me the opportunity to install IE7 today and
I decided to oblige. After completing the install and rebooting the computer
(which during the reboot forced a chkdsk on my main c:\ windows drive) I
received the following error message.
-----
Windows – Corrupt File
The file or directory \$Secure is corrupt and unreadable.
Please run the Chkdsk utility.
-----
I ran the Chkdsk utility during the next reboot but the same error message
continued. I uninstalled IE7 and the message (and the chkdsk running at
startup) disappeared. I reinstalled IE7 and the message came back. I'm not
sure what is going on and I'm not sure how to resolve the error message
without removing IE7 permanently. Does anyone have any ideas?

Here is a link to some help with IE7 problems:

Try skipping chkdsk (press any key before it starts) and continue into
windows and look in the install logs for errors. They give the name and
location of the logs in the link above. Maybe look in event logs also, to
see what chkdsk did or msi errors or something corresponding. I'm running
IE6 right now because of problems with IE7... Have you tried downloading the
IE7 package from MS downloads then installing it? (bypassing windows
update). Try removing IE6 from "add/remove windows components", reboot, then
check the box to re-add IE6 before installing IE7. If you have add-ons, tool
bars etc... you might try uninstalling those as well before trying IE7
again.

Heres the download for windows XP sp2:
