Error number: 0x8024401A

AJ

My Windows update used to run perfectly well as
V4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com. Suddenly it's now
V5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com and everything has gone
pear-shaped. An error message keeps popping-up when I
select EITHER express install or custom install. I've
tried changing to V4 but this doesn't work.

Any solutions for a) the error message being posted in the
subject header and b) why V5 doesn't function properly.

Thanks

AJ,

Windows Update V5 does function correctly, trust me it's been tested to
death. I haven't heard of this particular error in relation to V5, when you
used to get it on V4 the repair instructions were:

Re-Register MSXML3.dll,

1.Click Start.
2.Choose Run.
3.In the Run box, type regsvr32 MSXML3.dll.
4.Click OK.

See if this solves the problem,

I've got the same problem as AJ and tried your solution. Allthough I
performed your solution, I'm still having the same problem.

Are your Windows versions OEM? Maybe that's part of the problem? Nobody seems
to know what's going on with this error...

Could it perhaps have something to to with the language of your windows? I'm
using a Dutch version.

I've had the same error when trying to search for xp sp 1 updates at
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com.

I read this thread and tried to run "regsvr32 MSXML3.dll" but it
doesn't seem to work. Does anybody has any other suggestions because
it is not possible to complete my installation without?

Thanks,

M
