error :not enough memory

While trying to play a game on line(pogo) recieve :not enough memory.this does not happen for all games just some. Have plenty of memory on my pc. Where and how do I tell the computer to use what is there.Have windows xp w ie 6. Pogo's solution is to shut down all processes not needed-How do I tell what isn't needed as all I do is read web pages,get mail and play games. Thank you for any help Dee

You probably have too many programs running.
