ERROR:Microsoft Office Outlook has stopped working

J

JACK KAYE

I am runing Microsoft Office Professional 2003 on Vista Home Premium. all
programs work perfectly (including Outlook) except every time I close
Outlook I get the following message.

Microsoft Office Outlook has stopped working.
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
Close
Program.

When I click on Close Program, the error box goes away. Other than the
error message upon closing Outlook, the program works fine.

I deleted and reinstalled the program twice but the error message still
appears upon closing the program.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Have you tried running Detect and Repair? Help->Detect and Repair.

Yes, i ran Detect and Repair twice and uninstalled and reinstalled the
program once. Nothing seems to stop the Error message when I close the
program. The strange thing is that the program works perfectly except for the
Error message i get when i close the program.

Any other thoughts?

I have a problem similar to Jack's but rather disastrous: I get the same
error message, but Outlook closes. It stays open less than a minute, so I
can't get any work done. I tried an "important" update and that did not help.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have not had a response yet to my request re Outlook closing itself. Thought
I'd add, however, that I've tried repair and delete and re-install from the
CD. I tried Milly's suggestion but Outlook closes while it's still loading
the detect and repair process. Also it was unable to find the proper program
on the Office CD.

Thanks.

You can run Detect and Repair from any Office program plus Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs->Microsoft Office->Change->Repair.

I have exactly the same problem as Jack - an error message as I close down
although the program works perfectly.

I am also using Vista Home Premium but with Outlook 2007

Help would be appreciated

Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook]

No, you don't have EXACTLY the same problem as you are running a different version of Outlook.

Start your own thread and give complete details of your setup and the problem.

Had to go look for a while to find that to make your completely unhelpful comment, eh?

I have the same problem and I'm running Office Pro 2003 too. Outlook runs
fine until I close out and then I get the same msg. Has anyone found a fix
for it. It just gets annoying to have this going on when I shut down my
computer at night.

Does the same thing happen if you start Outlook in safe mode?

Same problem using Outlook7 and new install of Vista SP1

Problem is not evident when Outlook is run in Safe Mode. Also I noticed
that the problem was not evident on first use of Outlook after booting back
into normal mode. What does this tell you Brian?

D

Diane Poremsky [MVP]

It tells me that either you have an addin causing problems (Tools, Trust
Center, Addins) or the profile is corrupt. I'd start by disabling all the
addins and see if it works correctly.
