Hi;

I am getting the following error message when I visit some nondescript
sites:

This page provides potentially unsafe information to an ActiveX control.
Your current security

settings prohibit running controls in this manner. As a result, this
page,may not display

correctly.

My IE6 settings are set to the default level. My computer is a generic
Pentium 4 with 512 mgs of RAM & a 80 gig HD with lots of room. My O/S is
windows XP Home SP1

I have tries searching M/S support site but all the results seem to apply
to older versions of windows

Any suggestion as to how I should sort this out

Hi Mel :)

Try the following information and see it this helps.

Active x Errors and Settings

ActiveX Error Message

http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/acxen.htm

See: "Various Registry Fixes."
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Start with Ad-aware, Spybot, CWShredder here to check for malware on your
system that could also cause the problem.
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Also get the HiJackThis and run it:

HiJackThis: - Free

Go to
http://computercops.biz/downloads-cat-14.html ,
or
http://tinyurl.com/2oce8
or
http://tinyurl.com/2atxk

and download HiJackThis. Unzip to a folder other than your Desktop or the
Temp folder, doubleclick HiJackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button. Press that, save the log some place you remember where it is.
Most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so DO NOT fix
anything yet.

Open a the copy of your log in NotePad and made a copy. Then you can go here
to post you log:
http://forum.aumha.org/

Go to the HiJackThis section on the forum list and click to open. You can
post as a guest. It's also a good site to keep for reference. The experts
there will analyze the log and report back the results. Please allow at
least a few hours or a days time for a response.

Remember, you must return to the HJT site to get your answer. It is a good
idea to click the "Notify" box so that you will get an electronic
notification by e-mail to let you know when a response has been posted.
But, you must still return to the site of your answer

Here's more information on how to help protect your system:

Practice Safe Hex
http://www.claymania.com/safe-hex.html

This program helps control parasites, spyware, adware, and malware that may
get on your system:

SpywareBlaster: Free

Hope this helps.

Hi:

Thanks for the reply.

I have tried using the usual programs to find to find any malware on my
system. I run maintenance checks on my system at least twice a week and the
programs are up to date.

The usual programs are: Spybot S & D v1.3
Ad\aware v6.0 Personal build 6.181
NAV 2003
chkdsk
defrag
I think the problem is a little more complicated than usual.

One of the site that I have a problem with is:
http://www.tvtome.com/list/all.html

Maybe this will help for an idea.

The website opened and displayed fine for me. It was clear and no errors.
Have you run the other programs I posted? Try running the CWShredder and the
HiJackThis. If these do not help then post back and we will see where else
the problem might be. Making sure your system is clean of all malware and
hijackware will make it easier to troubleshoot.

Hi:
I have checked everything with Spybot S & D, Ad-aware & NAV. I can't find
any strange malware. I've run HijackThis but I'm having trouble logging onto
http://forum.aumha.org

I still think that this is a file problem because most other site open
without any problem.

There should be a way to repair the activeX controls.

Sorry I wasn't able to help find a solution. Perhaps one of the others here
will have a solution for you.

Thank you trying. Good luck! :)

Hi;

I finally worked out my problem. The answer appears to be the security
settings for activeX in the trusted zone. The "Initialize and script ActiveX
controls not marked as Safe" has to be set as enabled.
