Error Messages on Startup and Restarting: faxqvmea.....dll

G

Guest

I have been getting error messages upon startup stating the following .DLL
files aren't recognized by Windows XP. There are a total of 5 files:

example: C:\Program Files\faxqvmea\rzmldj1v.DLL

I've searched for the .exe file faxqvmea on the internet, microsoft and have
not found it's purpose. Even after removing it from the start up menu, the
error messages still appear and when going back into the start up menu
programs, the faxqvmea.exe file is once again ticked after I had previously
unticked it.

In other news,

I'm also getting a .txt file in Microsoft Word upon start up stating the
following:

ShellClassInfo
LocalizedResourceName-@%\system32\shell32.dll,-21787

The above problems don't seem to affect anything other than having to close
the error messages numerous times upon startup and shutdown/restarting.

Any help would be appreciated.

For the second problem...

Desktop.ini file opens in Notepad on Desktop

Notepad Starts With "[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\System32\Shell32.dll,-21787" When You
Start Your Computer

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330132

For the first problem.
I've searched for the .exe file faxqvmea on the internet, microsoft and
have not found it's purpose.

Its purpose is probably a virus. Or it could be any kind of malware.

Update your antivirus software and run a full system scan.

Update whatever anti-spyware applications that you have and run a full
system scan with each one.

You might want to start in Safe Mode to run your antivirus and anti-spyware
software.

Running a full system antivirus scan or anti-spyware scan in Safe Mode can
be a good idea. Some viruses and other malware like to conceal themselves
in areas Windows protects while using them. Safe mode will prevent those
applications access and therefore unprotect the viruses or other malware
allowing for easier removal.

Thank you for the help, both issues seem to be resolved. One other issue
related to this is the faxqvmea.exe file. I have gone into the startup menu
and have unticked this file from starting upon startup. However after
rebooting that file and others that I have unticked are once again ticked and
running. I have removed the folder faxqvmea from the C:program Files
location but I seem to think it is still there somewhere. If I have removed
the entire folder containing the faxqvmea files, then why does the startup
menu still show the file to be started upon startup?

How do you know that faxqvmea.exe is running?

Did you run antivirus and antspyware apps in Safe Mode?

I had checked the msconfig/startup programs and that item was ticked after I
had removed the tick. I did run antivirus pg's in safe mode and found the
location of the faxqvmea.exe file and removed it as well. The programs are
no longer ticked but are still showing up in the startup program menu. I
still have unticked some programs from starting in the startup menu, however
upon rebooting they are once again ticked. The file in question is:

C:program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe/background

This file according to the following link:
http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php?filter=msmsgs.exe

is either a type of worm or a valid windows messenger file. I am just
wondering why if I disable the file that it continues to be started upon
rebooting?

Because it doesn't know what you did with msconfig.

Go to Windows Messenger > Tools > Options > Preferences and uncheck "Run
this program when Windows starts"

Get this...
[[This utility will allow you to disable Windows Messenger on per-user
basis, or on a machine wide basis.]]
Disable/Remove Windows Messenger
