Error message with a merge

Helle I've created a merge in Word 97 with an acces
database. If I want to open it in Word 2003 I get this
message:

Word could not re-establish a DDE Connection to Microsoft
Access

When Access is already started I don't get that message
The DDE error.
In Access I do get a message that the database is made
with an older version of Access.
