Error message when opening documents

Hi, i have just got Office 2003 Standard and find it really useful
Being very into Windows i tend to open my word documents in Windows explorer far more than opening Word and going File > Open

However, when i just double click a word file Word opens and displays an error before displaying the document

This is the error: "the command cannot be performed because a dialogue box is open. Click OK, then close open dialogue boxes to continue.

I click OK and the file loads fine, but why is this happening

No dialogue boxes are open

I am on Windows XP Professional (pretty much up to date), Office 2003 Student and Teacher (Standard) Edition complete install with some components of Office 2000 Premium still installed (FrontPage 2000 only)

My guess is that this is a problem related to the office plug-in of Norton
AV. Open Norton AV and from the options menu, under miscallaneous, uncheck
the office plug-in. If you are not running Norton AV, then check what other
add-ins load with Word.

Thanks alot, that was obviously the problem.

I am using Norton AntiVirus 2002 and was thinking of upgrading it next year, do you think that 2004 or 2005 will work OK with Office 2003?
I find the plug-in can be a useful safegaurd against macro viruses.

Reports about NAV 2004 (*is* there a 2005 version?) are not encouraging; it
may be even worse. But you don't need the plug-in to protect you from macro
viruses. Just enabling Auto-Protect (and Word's own security) will do this.

I'd save your money. There is precious little difference between 2002, 2003
& 2004. They all use the same virus checking patterns. The Office plug-in is
neither necessary nor desirable. Its omission will not impair your
protection against viruses.
