error message when I preview

Why do I get the error message below when I try to preview my site on http?
I am using an Access Database on the webserver in conjunction with Frontpage.
Thanks for any help you can give. This Access database and Frontpage has
been a nightmare. Is there any other database software that would allow me
to import all my info currently on the Access database? That's the only
reason I'm dealing with Access and FP!

Are you creating the site under http://localhost on your local PC via Windows XP IIS and then
testing it via http://localhost

I am creating the site on my PC in Frontpage, then testing it on internet
explorer by simply trying to pull up the site. The database is on the
hosting server.

Does your host support ASP and Access databases? Have you published all the
required files (including the global.asa which contains the database
connection information)? When you do a publish (changed/new pages only) it
should transfer all the required files.).

So you are publishing via FP's http to your domain on a Windows IIS web server that has ASP and
Access support, correct?

Yes, that is correct. My host told me to make sure the database was on their
server in a file called DB in order to have read/write access, and I've
uploaded the database to that folder, although I'm now not sure that is what
I should be doing. I've also followed FP instructions for entering the
database into my site. Nothing seems to get it corrected. What file on my
site should contain the global.asa? Does that matter?

If the DB folder is outside of your web root (means you can not see the DB folder from within FP),
then you need to contact your host for instructions on connecting to the database, then you will
have to manually modify the global.asa file.

If you can see the DB folder from within FP, then your web host should really let you use FP's fpdb
folder.

Can't I just upload the fpdb folder into the DB folder on the server and
accomplish the same thing? I did manually change the global.asp to the
direct path given to me by my host, but still no luck. Where is the
global.asp supposed to be located or does that matter?

No, you can not create and upload the fpdb folder, FP must create this folder on the server so that
the correct permissions are set. You can do this by opening the live/remote site directly in FP,
then import a Access database and FP will prompt you for a connection name and then you must allow
FP to move the database to the fpdb folder. FP will then update the global.asa file. The global.asa
must be in the root of the web or subweb.
