Hi DiDi :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Update your javascript engine:
For 2000 and XP go to

The install includes a new jscript.dl

Also...as you have just installed the SP2, it is possible that it found some
type of adware, spyware or other scumware on your system that may have been
undetected before: Try cleaning your system and see if that helps:

Hi Jan,

Thanks for your reply. I've tried the various ways you provided but was
still not able to solved the problem. My IE6 is of version 6.0.2900.2180
which is IE6 for Windows XP SP2. Is it one version higher then IE6 SP1 ? If
this is the case, Can I uninstall this current IE6 and reinstall IE6 SP1 ?

Please advise ......

Thanks ! :)

Hi DiDi :)

If you have SP2 then you are fine. We just need to know which one you have.
:)

What kind of sites are you trying to download from?

Try the following:

An Error Message Occurs If You Click "Save Target As" for a Link
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=319032

Internet Explorer Could Not Download <Filename.exe…..>
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=183506

Internet Explorer cannot download "Filename.ext" from "Servername".
Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet Site.

This error message may occur if a Web page contains a link to a resource
that is hosted on another server that requires a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
connection and client authentication. The error message occurs only if you
have not already been authenticated in the current session by the SSL
server on which the resource is located. You cannot be successfully
authenticated by the SSL server at this point. You must quit Internet
Explorer and start it again to gain access to the Web site.

A possible workaround for this problem; click the link to visit the site to
get authenticated before you try to save the resource by clicking Save
Target As on the context menu for the link.

Also check the information here. It might help:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=317208

Hope this helps.

Hi Jan,

I'm trying to download my bank statement from Citibank. My previous IE
version has no problem but after installing XP SP2, the problem occurs.

I need your gudiance on some of the solution you provided.

1) Can you tell me how I configure the HTTP Headers within IIS for the
Virtual Directory (or for the Directory) that contains Office documents, not
to set Content Expiration to Expire Immediately ?

2) How I can get authenticated before trying to save the resource by
clicking Save Target As on the context menu for the link when I click the
link to visit the site ?

Thanks ! :)

Exactly same problem as DiDi is happening to me. I have same IE6 version,
have same problems with my bank statements, same problem with attachments in
Hotmail, etc. impossible to download. A neighbour and a number of foreign
friends tell me they are also facing similar problems. It looks to me that
there is a general bug here, so why is there not a solution provided by
Microsoft? Would appreciate to be kept informed on any progress you might
have in the meantime. Thanks.
