Error Message 'Too many fields' Help!

While developing a table when I try to save it,it tells me that I have too
many fields - 255 or more- but I only have about 15. What am I doing wrong?
It's driving me crazy! I can't add fields. I've tried to add in both the
Table view and the Design view and the same thing happens. I've updated
Office in case it was a 'bug'. Your help is appreciated.

Have you added and deleted a number of fields? Try compacting your database
to see whether the field counter gets reset to match the actual number of
fields.

Thanks Douglas, I'm going to try that but won't be able to until Monday when
I'm back at work. I'll let you know how it worked. - Christine
