Usually caused by not properly authenticating to the outgoing mail server.

is a 'fault' with Outlook!!!!

Brian,

In simple language, what does your response mean? I am a totally non tech
person!

First I'll need to know what mode Outlook is using. Outlook 2000 has two.
Does your Tools menu contain an "Accounts" item or a "Services" item?

This indicates Internet Mail Only mode, but since you didn't include the
original problem, I have no idea how to help. State the problem again.
