Error message 8000FFFF

What on earth do I do about this? I am not getting any updates, nor
have had any updates since I purchased my computer about 4 weeks ago.
I go to Windows Update and it tells me that I have error message
8000FFFF and that I should get help.

Since I bought my computer from Dell, I asked a technician there how I
could receive updates for my computer and he told me that because
Vista was so new, there weren't any!!! I can't believe this!

Somebody else on one of these forums said that I had to uninstall
another program that had a name ending in 777, but when I tried to do
this Add/Remove programs told me that it had not been removed, and I
was stuck where I had started.

Please help!

Thanks Mick. I couldn't have said it better myself. Hilariously,
(not), doing a system restore is exactly what the Dell technician made
me do. I thought it was a waste of time. So please... SOMEBODY must
know how to solve this?

If the problem is to do with teh automatic updates, thgen i had the same
trouble.. couldn't do anything about it since March updates this year.

Another thread by "T2" did have an answer that worked in my case and i've
copied it below - got the 32 updates i was missing!!

Give it a go
