error loading visual styles

Hi
When I go to the appearance tab in my display
properties, I can't change the style to classic or any
other style. It is set to the standard xp style and if i
switch it to classic i get an error that reads "The

Visual styles could not be loaded because the file failed
to load." underneath it says details but there are none
listed. I don't know how this problem came about but it
is very annoying.

Can anyone help?
