Error in logon with 3 PC network

Steve Hoffmann

I have a 3 pc network. I ran the network wizard on all three PCs. They
are all listed on the same workgroup. two of the three are happy to
communicate both ways. The third computer is visible to the other two
but when you select view all work group computers and click on the
misbehaving computer, you get the following message.

" \\Stevesp4c is not accessible. You might not have permission to use
this network resource. Contact the server admin of this resource to find
out if you have access permissions. Logon failure: The user has not been
granted the requested logon type at this computer"

WinXP SP 1. this setup used to work fine and just started with this
problem with this one computer recently...

Greetings Steve,

Are you running Windows XP Home or XP Pro?

On any XP Pro computer check the Group Policy settings.

1. Run secpol.msc.

2. Click Local Policies.

3. Click User Rights Assignments.

4. Click "Access this computer from the network" and make sure that the
Everyone group is included.

5. Click "Deny access to this computer from the network" and make sure that
the Everyone group is NOT included.

Hello Eric,

Thanks, yes XP Pro. I checked and the offending PC did not have the
'Everyone' category in the access this computer from the network
configuration. So, I added it but still no joy. Do I need to configure
the 'Everyone' category?? The deny access category did not have the
everyone category.

Thanks again
