Have you tried Looking in Device Manager to see if your USB needs the
drivers installed (re-installed?)

I have a similar problem. Whenever I uninstall and reinstall the WinXP
Promise 378 SATA Controlle, I get the message "Device Cannot Start Code 10."
There used to be no problem with recognizing the SATA drive. Now, I
cannot get the controller to work. I've tried replacing the older SATA
drive with a new one, and yet I get the same result. I don't see very much
written about this problem. Does anyone "out there" have a clue?

I am having the same problem with My external harddrive. The cause of my
problem I think is that I had two USB devices including the external
harddrive. I no longer see the drive listed as I use to. I get the "This
device cannot start, code 10
" message. I have uninstalled the drive and reinstalled it, still the same
message. The solution to this problem maybe a hotfix, but I cannot find one
for Windows XP Home edition.

I, too, am having the same problem with a new external Amacom ez2disk hard
drive, attached via a USB port.

I get the error code 10 and cannot get the thing to work.

I am at a loss.

We also have a problem formatting an external USB 160GB Acomdata drive, (no
code 10), drive is always visible, healthy, online, but not formatted,
originally came FAT32, but could not backup to it. Using XP SP2, USB ports
directly on computer, (no hub or card). Problem is"Format did not complete
successfully", either quick or full format, deleted partion and renewed and
attempted format numerous times. System also does not read a USB 80GB Fat32
drive with Jpegs on it (blurry streaks and crashes), where other XP SP1 and
SP2 machines and my ME unit have no problem.Have updated chipset drivers on
my 2 year old P4 HT (Gigabyte MB) machine
Sofar have not found an answer in this or other forums, nor in Jacks
solution(why not show us the way)
