Error Code 0X80070017

hello,

i tried installing this onto my pc today with no luck . i have got this
error code about 45% into installation. I bought the Windows Vista Home
Premium version, and currently am running win xp sp2. I tried disc defrag,
cleanup, I dont know what else to do. please help me

I would also like to add I didnt install any kind of beta or anything like
most of these posts did, I have a retail 32bit version and get this error.
Any assistance or a push in the right direction would help greatly. Thank you

Hi,

If upgrading, make sure your antivirus software is disabled, or better yet
uninstall it.

Thank you for your response, yes im upgrading, I completly uninstalled
norton, tried the install and it still stopped at 44% with same error. I
called microsoft, went through everything i already tried such as disc
defrag, disc clean up, I even did a disc error check and checked both boxes.
Everything is clean. With the tec on the phone it still happened at 44%. He
told me to do reinstall my Os which is win Xp sp2, I didnt really want to do
this but did it anyways in hopes of it working. So i did a clean install of
my Os, tried to install vista once again but only to come up with the same
error. So i Did a destructive system recovery beings everything was deleted
anyways. It went smoothly just as if i just pulled the pc out of the box.
Tried to install vista, once again same problem. I researched the error and
have noticed this error is quite common. Is there anything else I can try,
could the vista disc be faulty? What do i need to do please. Thank you.
