Error checking of C drive keeps restarting computer

I went into properties for C: drive and then tools, and clicked Check Now
for error checking. And I checked the box that said fix errors. The computer
said files are not accessible and do I want to check on restart? and I
answered Yes. But on restart, it checks the C: drive and then instead of
launching WinXP it restarts again, and again and again, until I choose the
option to boot the last known good configuration. Is there a fix for this?

There's nothing in task scheduler even after I schedule chkdsk to check my
drive on restart. The other (logical) drives work fine, I'm just having a
problem with the C: drive which is the main boot drive. Every time I
schedule chkdsk, it does the chkdsk when I restart but then instead of
launching XP it starts again and I get a screen saying "We apologize for the
inconvenience" etc and gives me several options. If I choose Start Windows
Normally it loops again, so I have to choose Last Known Good Configuration
to get into Windows. I'm sure this problem is documented somewhere. I
probably just need to reset a file or something. Can someone help please?
