error: "can't update-- database or object read-only"

When trying to export a query to an excel file, I get the message, "can't
update-- database or object is read-only." This is in Windows 98 using
Office 2002. Connot find how to change from "read-only" to ????

Did you ever find a solution? I am having a similar problem that I posted
today.

I found my own answer.

Access would not write the file for the user because I was not using a
"known" file extension. Evidently, MY PC will allow that, but the other
user's PC would not. I have changed to using a ".txt" file extension and all
is well for my application!
