Error 80070190

For the life of me I cannot get this problem resolved.

Cannot get Live Messenger to sign in. Keep getting 80070190 error, despite
getting successful connection using my HTTP Proxy using the Connection
testing functionality in Tools|Options|Connection|Advanced Settings|Http
Proxy|Test.

It used to work before.

Yes, I have re-registered all the DLL's as suggested by other trouble
shooting posts.
Yes, I have (double) checked the firewall
Yes, it's the latest version 8.1

I have only managed to find one post in Jan 2007 of a guy with the beta
version, similar symptoms, but he didn't have any success.

Please help.
