"Error 5121: Cannot open document"???

Word97 on an NT network.
Multiple users of a form that creates documents.
Macro suddenly starts failing with the subject error message after years of
"flawless" performance.
Errors are intermittent and occur on various machines.
The error is triggered when the macro attempts to add a document which is
stored
as a template on a network workgroup templates directory
("Documents.add WorkgroupDir\Sys\ & ProblemFile.dot")
ie The subdirectory (named "Sys") is a subdirectory of the target directory
recorded in the
file locations tab.
I have managed to temporarily fix this, more by good luck than good
judgement(!), by issuing the
same command in the VBA immediate window using a different template and
pointing the directory up one level (ie "Documents.add WorkgroupDir\ &
AnotherFile.dot".
If I do this, then re-run the macro, all is well (until the next
day/hour...).
Also;
These problems started around the time that our system's people installed a
McAfee virus scanner on all the machines. In my hours of searching I've seen
references to how virus scanners can cause problems (most refer to NAV).
I've tried killing the scanner and sometimes it makes a difference,
sometimes not.

I'm in desparate need of a hint!

Thanks

Hi Rob,

My guess would be something that's interfering with Word "seeing" the
template. This could be the AV software, it could also be a problem with the
network connection, network traffic, or perhaps folder permissions. Or maybe
some of these in combination...

Thank you Cindy,

It appears as though the AV may be the problem in that I haven't had the
error
today after I killed the scanner yesterday.
It seems that when I tried this before that I wasn't really "killing" the
AV, only stopping its process of doing a full scan of the user's hard
drive.
This may have been the reason for it working sometimes(?).

Yesterday I looked at the "Processes" in the task manager and noted that it
was still
resident. I right clicked the Icon in the task bar and hit "Exit" which
removed it from the list.
After that it worked OK for the rest of the day and the AV did not load this
morning and
all worked well.

I'm obviously not that conversant with how these things (AV's) work and
would appreciate it if someone can
lend credence to my thoughts ie does what I've said make sense?

Thanks for your time

Rob

I'm not either, really, but what you've done makes sense - as far as the
results you're seeing go.

I'd contact the AV manufacturer and ask if they have a fix for this
"interference" you've been experiencing.
