Hi...I have a reoccuring problem when trying to install software that I have
downloaded. Doesn't happen all the time, happens some of the time.
I click to install which ever software and I get the message, "Error
1606.Could not access network location %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\Unused Desktop
Shortcuts\Templates\. Retry. or Cancel".
The Templates folder, is there in the unused desktop shortcuts file and I
give up messin with it! Its driving me crazy as I am technologically
retarded.
Any suggestions or simple answers please?

Error 1606 indicates that a shell folder path is wrong. Read carefully this
article by Ramesh MVP and compare your registry information against the XP
defaults and modify accordingly (please make a registry backup as the
article says):

Reset the Shell Folders paths to defaults
