Hi,

A copy/paste from Lucy (MS support) on this issue:

For clarification:

You can access Windows Update, Scan for updates, select update to install,
select install, then nothing happens? Log reports 0x80072EFF.

Is this the case?

If so you may have difficulties accessing "download.windowsupdate.com".
Here's some steps to verify:

1) **Temporarily disable antivirus, web accelerator/enhancement programs.
Here's a link to programs known to intercept Windows Update.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;241234

2) Are you able to download using the Catalog site? Attempt to download an
update to your desktop.
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/en/default.asp

3) Please verify Host File: (Steps for XP)
Navigate to C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
Right Click on HOSTS file and open with "Notepad"
Verify no Windows Update or Microsoft addresses associated with an IP
address.
If entries are found please delete the entries. Save changes.

4) In order for Windows Update to function we need to ensure the following
are fully trusted:
Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Security
Select "Trusted Sites"
Select "Sites"
Uncheck the "Require Server Verification" option
Add the following:
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://V4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://download.windowsupdate.com
Click Apply, then Ok

If you are accessing the Internet using a proxy server please add the above
address to the proxy exception list. (Bypass proxy)

<end>

On #4, also add this site to the list:
