Error 0x8007064c

My eventual fix (It may work for you?) for error 0x8007064c. (When I first
Googled - 3 hits, now
up to 25 and climbing) I used Spyware Beta 1 thence Defender Beta 2 without
any major problems up
until signature 1.14.1314.1 on 7/3 - thereafter error 0x8007064c. With the
help of these
newsgroups and particularly Bill Sanderson I tried every fix and combination
of fixes given
without success. I uninstalled/reinstalled several times (later discovered
not the way to do it).
Reinstallations immediately gave me popup error 0x8007064c (WD was unable to
complete the update:
0x8007064c. The installation source etc.) - Using RUN Msiexec /x
{A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C} always resulted in error about CD
source not found etc.
With a FLASH of brilliance/desperation? remembering my (DOS PATH) days, when
I received this error
I browsed to the WD Directory and picked up the AS_Sigs.MSI file and OK'd
it. I'm not exactly sure
what happened next but I followed the OK/Yes prompts (I also had automatic
updates switched on) WD
repaired itself, the normal popup (checking for updates) appeared and
everything worked as normal.

I have the same problem exactly, but I am not sure what you mean by "I
browsed to the WD Directory and picked up the AS_Sigs.MSI file and OK'd
it." I would appreciate it if you could explain what you did.

Thank you.

By "same problem exactly" do you mean that you get exactly this error
message?

Glad it worked for you. My apologies for the original formatting for my fix,
which made it difficult to comprehend. (Used notepad and copy/paste -
obviously not the way to to it?).

I am getting the same error. Your directions are unclear to me. I was not
fortunate enough to find the solution from that. I tried running the
AS_Sigs.MSI file from Windows and DOS, after it tries to run it says "The
installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the
source exists and that you can access it. " Any suggestions? Thanks!

What happens if you go to Windows Update and do an express scan? Are you
offered Windows Defender definitions? Is an attempt to install them
successful?

You may want to step back and try the authoritative troubleshooting article,
which was published after the thread you are responding to, I believe:

Regardless of the method, it says that it cannot verify the install path.
Windows Updates does not work with this either. Any other ideas? The KB's
did not help. Thanks! Chuck

Nothing seemed to work. Any other ideas? No matter what method of update it
throws the error. Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks!
