error 0x8004210A on Vista

I do have an HP Desktop , OS VISTA BASIC . I did install on it OUTLOOK 2003
.. It worked perfectly for a few days , as it got stuck sending the message :
"Operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server.
Error 0x8004210A. I should add that this PC is included in a LINKSYS NETWORK .
Coud it be the reason for the error ? Thannks in advance for any help.

You could try increasing the time-out when you have a slow connection but in
general this is not needed.

Do you have a virus scanner installed which integrates itself with Outlook?
Uninstall this integration part of your virus scanner and try again; you'd
still be sufficiently protected by your on-access scanner part of the virus
