I'm running Windows XP SP2 with Outlook 2003 with all the latest
patches from outlook.microsoft.com. I have 2 accounts. The first is
to our Exchange server (which works flawlessly) the second is to my
personal e-mail account. When I try and retrieve messages, Outlook
sends all outbound messages (via SMTP) without a problem, but then
cannot received inbound email (via POP3). I get the following message
when I try:
"Task '<servername> - Receiving' reported error (0x80042108): 'Outlook
is unable to connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you
continue to receive this message, contact your administrator or
Internet Service Provider (ISP)."
I can telnet from the command prompt to the servers address using the
POP3 port (110) without issue. The server name and port are correct
in Outlook. When I turn on logging, I get the following:
2005.08.18 10:20:24 <server name>: Synch operation started (flags =
00000001)
2005.08.18 10:20:24 <server name>: UploadItems: 0 messages to send
2005.08.18 10:20:24 <server name>: Synch operation completed

So Outlook is obviously connecting to the server, but not completing
for some reason. I should not that because I delete the server
messages only from home, this Outlook account is set to leave a copy
of the message on the server and never delete them.
Anyone have any ideas?
