Erroneous "My Digital Camera" system folder

xp home v 2002 sp3

In "my computer," there is a "my digital camera" system folder (with a
generic icon, the very first one in SHELL32.dll); since I don't have a
digital camera, I wonder: why is the icon there, and how can I make it go
away?

Thanks,

Clem.

No idea why you call it erroneous but if you really don't want this
system item then...

It is a NameSpace item.
Go to REGEDIT.EXE and the CLSID of the icon will be under the key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\mycomputer\NameSpace\

Your strange item should be in this area and be obvious.
It is most likely the standard item...
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace\{C56C4E21-706D-11d0-AFC5-444553540002}]
@="My Digital Camera"

Delete the item when you are sure. It is a good idea to export the
....\NameSpace\ key to a temp.reg file first, in case of errors

If you are uncomfortable doing this, then ignore it. It does no harm.

It was put there by the installation of XP. It ought to be empty. It does
no harm to have an empty system folder like this. So, quit worrying.
