Erratic Mouse / Cursor

Hi. My problem is that all of a sudden, for no reason I can discern, my
cursor begins moving all over the desktop, opening programs seemingly at
random, and it goes crazy for 5 to 10 seconds or so. Then it stops, and I
again have control over my mouse, except that I can not left-click on
anything that's open (I can click on the taskbar successfully), until I hit
control-alt-delete, then I regain full control even though I haven't stopped
any tasks.

I am using Windows XP Home. I keep up with the Windows updates. I am using
McAfee for virus scanning and Firewall. I ran McAfee, and then I ran AdAware
6.0 and Spybot Search & Destroy, and found no problems whatsoever. Can
someone please help me? I've searched Microsoft's knowledge base and came up
empty.

I had a similar problem with a wireless mouse....not as extreme but lots of
random movements.......
Solution.......replaced the batteries.
It may help!

Thanks for the reply & suggestion. Mine's not wireless, it's a Logitech
MouseMan Serial MousePort. No batteries. I've continued trying to adjust the
settings, etc., no luck. In fact, it just did it again while I was typing
this message. I just had to sit by and wait it out.

After looking at every other option I could think of, I replaced the mouse.
No problems since doing so.
Thank you Fergie for your suggestion/reply.
