Epson stylus cx3810 all in one doesn't scan

Uncle Scotty

Hi,

My Epson stylus cx3810 all in one printer, prints, copies and doesn't
scan when connected via USB to my XP PC. I tried installing updated
driver and twain driver, but no luck. As it is a USB device, so I
expected it would just plug and play.

Should I assume at this point that there is some mechanical
malfunction with the scanning component or is there some other testing
I can do to see if this thing will work?

Thanks, Scott

you might want to see
if the wia service is not disabled.

go to admin tools, services and
enable it if it is disabled.

other than this you likely need to
check out epson website for
faq's or patches.

their install software
should let you "acquire" an image
from your scanner into the user
interface..

there is also a possibility that
the usb speed is mismatched,
keeping in mind that there is
a difference between usb 1.0 &
usb 2.0...

Is usb 2.0 backwards compatible? The XP PC is newer than the printer/
scanner. Also, I bought this scanner as an "as is" product that didn't
come with s/w. I downloaded the printer driver and twain driver, and
everything works except the scanner...

You'll also need to download the Epson scanning application from
Epson's web site.

yeh,

you can plug a device that is usb 1.0
into a port (either pc port or external hub)
that is usb 2.0

however, you cannot plug a device that
is 2.0 into a port that is 1.0

the problem with older equipment
is that the mfg's are relunctant to
provide an updated driver and would
rather sell a newer device.

if epson designed your printer/scanner
for win98 or winme, then you need
to find their drivers for winxp that
are for your model, if they made any.

zerox screwed me in this area....

what is your model number and maybe
i can help with the search...

But isn't that the twain driver? I already downloaded/installed. But
still no scanning. Is there something else to try?

is it possible that is why it was "AS IS".

the scan utility is on line 4 at
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/...=56291069&infoType=Downloads&platform=Windows

before doing the above:

unplug the printer, then

uninstall everything related to
epson that you previously installed, then

reboot, then

clean your registry with this
http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_cleaner/registry_cleaner.htm , then

reboot and

download the epson utilities above.

there are more options at the website
that you can use to further research
the problem you are having.

you can also email their customer
service as well. Tell them that
you got the printer as a christmas
gift and you havne't been able to make
it work...

for what it's worth, your printer
is winxp compatiable and the price
for the model is relatively inexpensive,
so i hope you got a good deal for this
thousand dollar headache you (we) have.

just a thought, but i gave up on epson's
a long time ago. HP printers is the way
to go, eventhough their pc's and other
software are c**p....

hope the above helps.

Yes, I assume it is so, but I want to see if I can get the darned

No, that's just a generic driver. You also need the Epson Scan
program. (I have the same all-in-one.)

Ok, let me give that a try. If it doesn't work, can we assume it is a
hardware problem and I should just toss it, or at least hold it for
printing and copying?
