epson stylus 800 parked lever

Tanya

hello,
epson 800 stylus color printer.
the lever that locks the cartridges (when they are parked) sticks so
that when one tries to print the cartridges do not move (they crash into
the parked lever)
what i need to know is whether the printer actually needs this lever
(nothing i have done has loosened it) and if there is some way to cut it
would the printer mechanism still *function* without it.
this printer is 7 years old
:)
thank you!

Hi Tanya,

Firstly, I cannot figure out how that lever can be jammed. Are you sure
it isn't gummed up with ink? If it is use the same cleaning fluid for
head cleaning in an eyedropper and drop some on the lever and it should
loosen up.

Secondly, yes, that lever has a function, it hold the head in the proper
position when the printer shuts down to keep it locked with the cleaning
station. This closes some air values that otherwise will allow air to
the heads, and they will be clogging continually.

Hi,

I had a similar problem, which was caused by congealed ink. I used the
following procedure to fix it. The problem reoccurred about 18 months
later, but this procedure again fixed it.

After removing the top of the printer case to give more working room, I
packed under the lever with absorbent cloth and then flushed the problem
area with Windex, introduced with a hypodermic syringe (the absorbent cloth
had to be changed several times).

This rapidly dissolved the congealed ink. The problem lever was manually
moved backwards while the area was being flushed and it quickly became free.
I then lubricated the joint with a couple of drops of "3-in-one" oil.
