Epson R200 and Windows 7

Seems W7 uses a generic one size fits all driver.

I have two identical Laptops. One will read ink levels the other will not.
Neither will allow me to reposition the ink cart carrier so I can change the
ink.

There are other functions I can't do with W7 that I can do with the older OS
such as select black only.

Is there an aftermarket application that I can use to get these functions
back?

See if this helps

To reposition ink cartridges to change ink try holding the 'paper infeed'
button for about 3 seconds. That seemed to work for the older Epsons. At
Epson there is no Win 7 driver but you might try using the XP driver and see
if you could install the printer with that one. That might get your 'black
only' functionality. The ssclg utility is apparently supporting the R200 but
I haven't tried to use it with Win7 so don't know what it will do.

WIN7 has a basic driver, do a Windows up date and you will find it, but
you cant see ink levels but http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml might
work.

BUT NEVER EVER RESET THE INK PAD COUNTER, unless you replace the Pads or
use a Ink bottle mod thing.

I have never ever seen a Black print option, mind you I use a Laser for
most of my printing far cheap than a ink jet to run

I have a old Panasonic Dyesub printer SV-AP10 no Vista or WIN7
drivers can be found but Windows update installed a driver..?

Just take the cover off the back and run the line into a bottle - simple
- I had a continuous inking system setup on the R200

I haven't either they use the colours to render a grey scale as they
only have one black cartridge.

I have found quite a considerable amount of drivers within and updates
of W7 even installing it on old laptops usually haven't gone looking for
any drivers.

Windows 7 have nothing to do with whatever the Printer Ink Monitor
software which is a *separated* program need to be installed and running for
it to work.

The Ink Monitoring program should come with the CD comes with the printer,
or you can download directly from Epson web page.

And BLACK has nothing to do with Windows 7 or any OS nor any type of
computer (PC pr MAC etc.)

If you want to print BLACK only, then you should buy the Refillable Ink
Cartridges and BLACK only inks (6 colors from 100% pure BLACK to level of
greyscale). And the printer will use all 6 black colors.

*If* you don't want to print any greyscale, then you can fill all 6
cartridges with 100% pure BLACK then you should have the BLACKEST image
block you have ever seen (more like Clip Art)

NONE software has option to print BLACK or any specific color but PRINT.
If you want to print

- BLACK only then fill all 6 cartridges with BLACK ink then you will have
the BLASKEST image you ever seen

- If you want to print Black with Greyscale, then

a. Buy the refillable ink cartridges

b. Buy the special Black inks and it should come with the *darkest* to
*ligher* (greyscale level) black inks

It has been around for more/less a decade and you should be able to ask
your friend GOOGLE where to buy these refillable ink cartridges and
Greyscale Level Only Inks.

Thanks for the thoughtful response, Joel,

The problem is that there are no Epson drivers for the R200/Win7 OS. And no
there is no option for a W7 compatible application from Epson or MS. The
web site leads one to that presumption as does Epson's over the pond
support. I only found that fact out after being on the phone with an Epson
CS support troop that did not comprehend or articulate English. My
salvation was my neighbor's grandson was a) a techie b) visiting my grand
kids and offered to help and c) bi-lingual English/and whatever native
language Epson's over the pond support spoke.)

The stock default driver that is supplied with W7 is crippled. I don't know
if this is intentional or a by product of the way MS provides drivers.

WRT "the Printer Ink Monitor software which is a *separated* program need to
be installed and running for it to work." This is why I posted the query as
I hoped that someone here knew of an alternative application I could use or
if not an application then a simple work around.

An aside the Mac driver (don't know if it's Epson or Apple provided) does
allow me to do what I want/need to do. That's a solution but one that is a
bit too complicated for ease of use.

By way of explanation. We run a design studio and for years we've
purchased, in lots, cheap printers. When one dies we toss it and take
another out of storage. We have both R200 and R220 that we use with
aftermarket ink that have served us well for test runs. We make final
submission prints using a professional (read expensive) printer.

There is from MS do a update to the OS but the Ink monitor is missing.

This is very normal for a lot of Win7 drivers I have found.

Does not work for Win7.

This might work SSC Service Utility

http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

If not run it in XP compatibly mode.
