Epson printers-separate cartridges?

Does anyone know if Epson has produced a good photo printer which uses
separate colour cartridges. I mean separate cartridges for each
colour so that all the colours don't have to be changed at once.

Yep, most of their newer models work this way.

But don't kid yourself -- there's really no cost benefit.

Reason? There are now six times as many cartridge
changes, hence six times as many cleaning cycles --
and with each cleaning cycle, ink gets used up in
all six carts.

Same deal on the newer Canon inkjets.

I must have missed the part about the cleaning cycle after changing ink!
Though I haven;t experienced any problems with my Epson 2100/2200
I am however very happy with that printer, there is also a smaller version!

MB,
Even though the Epson goes through it's cleaning cycles, it still gets a
lot of mileage from each cartridge. In fact Epsons are cheaper to run than
most other printers.

Epson produces several which use separate carts. For one with low fade
inks, and seven colors (CcMmYKk) I suggest the 2200 (2100 in Europe).
It's about $700 US and 13" wide. Then there is a four color low fade
printer at 8" wide called the C82.

However, be aware that each time a cartridge is replaced, all the
cartridges are purged as if new, so it may not save as much ink as it
might have had Epson used a different method,

Hi MB
I use a C82, separate cart's.I would NOT recommend it for photo quality
printing. When I bought it I was not informed that it is mainly for reports
and doc's. Which it is quite good at.

and a few years ago they said that Canons idea with individual ink
tanks was stupid ...

That may be true but if you replace each cart. with a new cart. how much ink
do you get for what you pay??? You are buying the housing every time unless
you refill and that's a whole diff. issue.
