ok heres the score, my friend gave me a working Epson EPL 4100 printer after my old printer died, it appears to be working fine and prints its test pages fine and when i connect it to my laptop it auto detects the parallel connection as the input source and laptop was able to detect it after i installed it manualy but when i print a test page it comes out as pages of garbage charecter

Windows XP Hom
IBM Thinkpad R40
2.0Ghz Celeron-M 256k 400fs
256mb Infineon DD
Radeon Mobility 7500 16m

ive tried the parallel port in bi-directional and uni-directional modes but no joy, i carnt test the RS232 connector cos my laptop dosnt have a port, and the printer has no network module

Did you install the XP print driver for that printer?

Did you leave the printer disconnected from the computer when you installed
the driver? If you didn't you'll have to uninstall driver, disconnect
printer, reinstall driver and reconnect printer after driver is installed.
You should be prompted when to connect printer after install from wizard.
