Epson C80 lights

On first startup of Epson Stylus C80
-- power light is blinking
-- paper indicator is blinking
-- ink indicator is on (not blinking.)

Obvious symptoms:
1. On correct command (ink button) ink cartridges do not move
to the right side for replacement.
2. On startup paper feeds half a sheet then stops.
This configuration does not appear on the Epson interactive
troubleshooting site (which has other sets of lights on/off/blinking.)

Anyone see a pattern here? This Epson C80 printer was
discarded by its OEM user so long ago he forgot why. I'd
like to get it back into service, and need first to replace inks.

First consideration would be that a circuit board may have failed with
inklight on a solid red, it feeding paper light flashing, and the green
ready light flashing. However, it may only need an EEPROM reset, which is to
bring the electronics back to factory specs from whatever mishap it may have
had to get it off kilter. That's why looking at the service manual may give
you the codes to do that.

Try making sure first, that the cartridges are all seated and that you're
not getting misread signals from the PCBs. Turn on the printer, and as the
head moves to the left pull out the power plug from the wall. Position the
print head by hand so you can open the cartridge clamp and press down on
each carridge to be sure it is firmly seated. Push the clamp back down and
plug the power cord back into the wall. Turn on the printer to see if there
is a change in its disposition.

If none then try this.

With the printer not connected to a computer, hold the ink button + paper
infeed buttons down, and simultaneously turn on the power button. See if the
lights flash on and off several times and then let go of the buttons. That
was the combination to reset earlier printers, ie, Epson 880 , 740 models.
It may have changed with the C80.

There is a site that you can download the C80 service manual (free) in .rar
format
http://www.eserviceinfo.com/ .

If you get no satisfaction with the buttons and reviewing information
with the manual you may have the electronics failure, and fixing it may be a
non-cost effective solution to the problem. Although clearible, there is a
huge probability that there would be a head clog as well if the printer were
sitting unused for a year or more.

Resist the idea that simply replacing the cartridges with new ones will
remedy the situation.

Many thanks for several suggestions, to be tried.

In this C80 the space for cartridge replacement is at the
right side of the printer. So I assume in above para. you
mean power should be unplugged when cartridges move
to right end, exposing their tops.

Aha: have downloaded this and will untar before trying this reset.

OK got it. Fortunately new C80 carts also fit an Epson CX5400 currently
printing our Xmas cards . . .
Thanks again.
