Epson 580 unknown error - HELP

Moshe Harel

My Epson 580 has stopped working, giving me the following error message:"An
unknown error has occurred.
Unplug your printer and contact your dealer or authorized service center."
As it is a cheap (but quie good) printer, I doubt anyservice could be
economicaly justifiable.
Can anyone suggest ways to repair this?
The printer worked fine just a few minutes before this error message
happened and now doesn't do any printing. When reconnected to power the
heads move normally and there is communication with the computer.
Any help would be appreciated.

Regardw, Mickey

Have you tried a different cable or made sure that the cable is connected
securely?

Eventually I've got a response from Epson, which states that they have a new
driver which might help, unless it is a hardware problem.
Downloaded the driver and the printer is working again.
Here is the main part of the Epson resonse:
"
1. Go to "START", "SETTINGS", "CONTROL PANEL"
2. Double click "ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS"
3. Find the Epson Printer Software and highlight it.
4. Click "ADD REMOVE"
5. Select the icon for your printer
6. Click "OK"
7. Follow the prompts until the uninstall is complete. Then..

1.Go to start, run
2.Type in Msconfig then click ok
3.you will see a system configuration utility appear
4.Click on the "Start-up" tab
5.Take the ticks out of all ticked except:
6.SCANREGISTRY, SYSTEM TRAY, LOAD POWER PROFILE X2
7.You must restart your system.

Then download and install following driver
Click on driver /downloads/select ink jet / then select 580

This self-extracting file contains the EPSON Stylus Color 580 Printer Driver
V 6.0cA for Windows 98 / Windows Me. This driver includes support for
Windows Millennium Edition and corrects an issue which may cause the
software installation process to stop responding..

8.Try printing and then put the ticks back in the start-up one by one

Restart your PC
