HI
I just bought an epson 4870 scanner to do 4x5 transparencies.
Initial tests show it is going to do a great job. Focus
is right on on my unit. But sometimes I would like to
just make a color copy of a document. I had several
HP scanners and they came with a nifty utility called hpcopy
that worked like a copy machine. Very fast to feed a few
pages through. Is there such a utility for the epson?

For making copies I scan with the TWAIN interface in Irfanview(free) and
then Print with Irfanview. Very fast, plus Irfanview will resize the scan to
fit the printer. You don't even have to save the scan to a file to print it.

Get the Plugins!

I do not seem to have this. I got epson drivers,
epson scan, and a silverfast SE photoshop plugin. The silverfast
does not do 16-bit, but the epson scan does, and works
both standalone and from photoshop cs. Silverfast only
works from photoshop. I can not find it
in epson scan. It has 3 basic modes: professional,
home and full auto, none seem to have any option to act
like a copier. Is it in another software package?

Thanks,
Roger

Thanks, I had irfanview a couple of years ago. Pretty good
program even then.

Try the freeware version of Nico Cuppen Photocopier
http://www.nicocuppen.com/download.php
or the freeware Icarbon (aka Icopy)

I do not seem to have this.

Are you in the U.S.? U.S. customers don't get Epson SmartPanel anymore. My
understanding is that Epson USA didn't want to have to support it because
the 3200 version caused so many headaches for so many users. I know it is
still included with the Euro software bundle.

What's the theory there? Europeans smarter, don't call in with as many
idiotic questions? (probably).

I believe your scanner has an on/off button and a smart panel button.
When you hit the smart panel button it should bring up a list of
options. One of then is COPY.
If nothing comes up then I would reinstall your programs.

<g> I don't know, but with the Epson 2100(US 2200) we get the gray
balancer as well, which USA'ns don't either.
