Epson 2100 Shipping

Can anyone please advise if when shipping this printer can whatever ink is
in the waste pads spill or leak or is it suspended within the material of
the pad. I am hoping someone in this group will have knowledge of the pads.

I can't tell you about the 2100, but an 880 was shipped to me and the black
ink leaked a lot. The head was taped to the right side as well and the
cartridges were still in the chambers.

The sponge or waste pad would absorb the ink and shoudn't leak on
would assume

In transit there may be alot of shaking and vibration that may caus
the ink tp 'spray' should there be any in the docking bay thats no
been absorbed and some in the inlet nozzles and head

A fair question that is, because you just can't remove a ink cartridg
from an Epson or maybe any other printer for that matter and leave i
out during transit

Would the best policy not be to insert a cleaning cartridge giv
several flushes and then leave the cleaning tanks in situ..

Don't forget the waste pipe will have ink in as well and an
viberation or tilting during transit could cause the ink to drip i
left on that position

My best guess is that it was from the ink cartridge. I would be dubious to
think it came from any other source as the foam material within the printer
shell does a good job of absorbing excess ink.

I was reading on the Epson site the other day if you are going to ship and
it will be less than 5 days leave the cartridges in. If it will take longer
than 5 days take the cartridges out.

I have shipped printers with no problems. Shipped by ground and air and
they did great both ways.

Davy, I have done just that and left the cleaning carts installed and the
system cleaned, so fingers crossed.

Oddly, if anything, I would suggest the exact opposite.

Ultrachrome inks are relatively slow drying and have a high glycol
percentage which slows the drying way down, however, I still don't think
it is a good idea to ship with the cartridges out in most cases,
however, make sure the head carriage is well secured via tape , and
locked up before shipping).

Thinking about it, isn't it risky shipping any printer with un-seale
cartridges cleaning or ink as the jilting and tilting would caus
leakage any way

Still it's a fair question whether Ultrachrome ink or not, don'
forget the inside temperature and humidity can rise to high values i
parked in sunlight, especially those with plastic roofs

Thanks to measekite for highlighting it.

I did mean to say shipping it once the cartridge seal had been broken,
it is plainly obvious (but not to me at the time) to ship a cartridge
with no seal on is asking for problems, since sticking tape over the
vents and the nozzle isn't 100% reliable.

Art, Would you expand your thoughts as to why to ship with the carts in. My
thinking was the carts seem to be quite secure in a 2100 surely they would
not bounce out of place with the cover taped down and lots of bubble wrap
around the printer.

I'm not sure if there is a misunderstanding between us or our postings.
I suggest shipping with the cartridges in the printer to prevent the
heads from drying or getting junk on the ink spikes during shipping.

However, the head carriage should be locked in place (happens during
shut down normally) and further just in case the printer gets jarred, I
would tape the head carriage in place to keep it in position on the
cleaning station.

Sure does sound risky leaving the ink tanks in situ no matter how wel
they'er secured, must be a reason they don't dispatch them fitted...

The shipping company might have hired a 'Hilly Billy' type driver

No inkjet printers come with the cartridges installed that I've ever
seen. For one thing, the shelf life of the ink would be curtailed once
opened.

Since Epson printers use permanent heads, the heads need to remain wet
to avoid drying out once they have ink in them.
