Epson 2100 problem/question.

Hi.
My E2100 printing too dark images in the shadows. I have a profile, and it
works very well, until I lift up the pizza wheels plate.
Colors are ok, gray don't have any tint, only problem is the shadows.
[128,128,128] is darker, squares from black to white shows the problem.
There is visible difference from 0,0,0 to 20,20,20 but next step is much
darker than before.
Line with gradients red>magenta>blue>cyan>green>yellow>red shows the same
colors so I think there's a problem with black...why?
Any ideas?
On my PC and notebook (new instalation) is the same, so the problem
is in printer...I think.

I have an Epson 2100. What is the Pizza wheels plate?

Do you mean the output rollers? They shouldn't make a significant colour
difference.

Are you printing with the quality-speed slider set on quality or speed?

Yes, ouput rollers with "spikes". They don't make a colour difference,
but there's a problem with alignment I think.

With "no color management" and dedicated profile.

Adam,

When you say lift up the pizza wheel plate am I correct to assume you remove
the pins because of paper marking, if so it may be you have removed the
wrong ones, as you say it would hard to prove that this alone would cause
the problem, I have seen some very odd things happen when the incorrect
wheels are removed. As you say with them in position there is no problem so
perhaps that is the problem. You have not mentioned what paper this happens
with or is it all papers also what ink are you using and is it suitable for
the paper used.

I am somewhat confused by your description. Are you stating that the
color profile you use works well until you lift the "pizza wheels" at
the front of the printer? Those wheels should simply be there to keep
the print from contacting any of the other hardware on the way out, to
assist in drying, and to help the transport move the paper at the end of
the sheet of paper, so I am unclear how that would alter your blacks or
shadow areas.

Further, are you stating that your black step wedge gets darker and then
lighter as you go up the wedge segments?

Please explain further, as I am a bit confused.

What happens if you print the gray scale using the printer set up as it
comes "out of the box".

Normally you only need to lift the output wheels if printing on problem
materials like plastic. Perhaps it's the material thats causing the loss of
contrast.

I got pizza wheel marks when I used a fragile ink on my Epson 2200
(MediaStreet ink). Are you using Epson ink?
