entering data, screen loads with error messages, cannot close scre

when trying to enter new data, the screen starts to load with error messages
and then the application freezes up - I tried running the compact and repair.
One of the messages is"it is not a valid argument".

I think you need to be more specific, since we cannot see you screen. Do you
have code behind the form? What preceeds the error? A record save? Updating a
particular field? Has this form worked before? If so, what's changed?
