I am logging on to my domain and as soon as I put in my password said
applying setting - the computer restart and the same thing happens when I log
into the local profile. I can log onto another computer in the domain with
no problem. Assume i need to get to system restore or their is something in
the registry. Should I reload Windows XP and do a repair. I don't know if i
need to but forgot the command to make a rescue disk?

If you're in a domain environment then you should ask your network
administrator to assist you.

There is no network Administrator per say anymore. Besides the problem isn't
with the domain. As i said i can log onto another computer into the domain.
The problem has to be with the local registry. My question is if I reload
windows and do a repair will this over write the registry so that the
computer will come up and I can take it from there? I am sure if I could get
to system restore it would fix the problem.

When you're in a domain environment then the domain/server administrator
tends to take a dim view of people attempting to fix problems by themselves.
Doing so tends to strain the relationship.

If you do not care about this issue then your first step should be to start
the machine in Safe Mode and check if the problem persists.

Thanks, that not an issue. I have tried to log into local and domain
profiles and both do the same. I also tried in safe mode and same thing. I
assuming something got changed in the registry. I put the password it and
it is accepted - tells me applying settings and then the computers restart.
I logged in with the same user name and password on another computer and
everything is fine. Supposedly a calculator got pushed on the keyboard and
some keys were pressed. I assuming that should change things but I don't
know where on the desktop or screen was at the time.

The next step would be a manual System Restore - see here:
