Encrypted or password protected picture files " how to get into them"

O

oaksix

When I click on MY PICTURES the search page comes up? How do I switch
it to just pull up in the regular file format? ALSO... I have
several files (pictures) that are highlighted in green print. I figure
this means they are LOCKED or Encrypted or compressed or Password
protected??????? Why I do not know. I have tried to decrypt and drag
to non-compressed folders, I am at a loss. Help. If someone knows
their way around windows xp I can give you my # so you can walk me
through this mess. Thanks

For the first problem:

MVP Doug Knox's fix -

Search Companion Starts If You Double-Click a Folder or Drive -
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/searchwindow.htm

For the second problem:

The green color indicates that those files are encrypted (you apparently
have XP Pro/Media Center because XP Home doesn't have the encryption
feature). Files don't become encrypted all by themselves. Either you
encrypted them or your computer is infected with one of the ransomware
trojans that encrypts your files and then blackmails you into paying for
the decryption. But normally in that latter case you would be getting a
message about this.

Here are some links about encryption. If you can't figure out what you did
and how to fix it, either contact Elcomsoft (not free) or a competent local
computer tech (also not free). If you go the latter route, this won't be
someone from a BigComputerStore/GeekSquad type of place. You should not
expect to get a phone call from people reading your post in a public
newsgroup nor would it be wise to trust that person if you did.
