Enabling print sharing for Win98SE and WinXp Pro

B

Beth Russell

Greetings,

After many attempts, just how does one set up a win98se
and a winxp pro machine to share a printer?

We have tried using the suggestion in winxp, using the
disk and then the cd, but to no avail.

On the win98se machine, we only have tcp/ip, ms file &
print sharing,ms family logon, no netbeui or ipx/spx

we are trying to complete the family network by giving
permissions for the win98se machine to use the printer
attached to the winxp pro machine

Do we need a print server?

any suggestions?

thanks

Running XP's Network Setup Wizard on both computers should make all
the right settings. There's no need for a print server.

Be sure to give it the right answer when it asks how the network
connects to the Internet. If you say "through a hub", it will enable
XP's Internet Connection Firewall, which blocks file and printer
sharing.

If you've disabled simple file sharing on XP, see this article for how
to set up sharing permissions:
