Enabling Firewall

R

Roger

I'm trying to enable the firewall for a dial-up connection
on Microsoft XP Home Edition. When I get to the Network
Tasks window and click on "Change settings of this
connection", nothing happens. ISP is AOL.

.
Go to: Start]
Go to: All Programs
Go to: Accessories
Go to: Communications
Go to: Network Connections
Go to: Highlight by right clicking on your Internet
Service Provider, LAN or whatever you use.\
Go to: Properties
Go to: Advanced
Click the box at the top to enable your firewall, click
OK.
Try that.

Greetings --

You'll need to find a 3rd party firewall that is compatible with
AOL.

AOL (an on-line content provider that ignores international
Internetworking standards in favor of its own proprietary products),
has deliberately made its connection software incompatible with both
WinXP's built-in firewall and WinXP's Internet Connection Sharing
feature. AOL's proprietary connection applet is deliberately designed
to preclude your setting/adjusting any of its properties, to include
enabling/disabling WinXP's ICF and ICS.
