Enabling bluetooth on an Acer Travelmate 6000

Hi all,

Little hacking question : My Notebook, an Acer TravelMate 6000, isn't
supposed to have a Bluetooth built in device. However, I think that the
hardware is effectively installed but simply disabled (and invisible) by
software.

Two things makes me believe that :
- I saw a message stating "disabling bluetooth" for a second at first
startup
- The bluetooth button exists on the front panel...

Any idea how to enable it ? :)

Thanks

Matt

I have the Acer Centrino. The software is pre-installed for their option,
that the computer does not get delivered with.

I called them, and they told me to get my own Bluetooth adaptor, uninstall
their software, and then install the software that comes with the new
adaptor.

I ended up using it on a desktop machine for now. I then bought a second
one, and did not have a chance to install it in to the laptop.

Be careful about the security issues when taking your laptop outside and
having the Bluetooth active. The situation with the Bluetooth is starting to
get serious. Make sure that it is secure with a strong password, or that it
is disabled when in any public places. Under ideal conditions, Bluetooth can
go up about 100 feet or so.
