EnableDefaultReply works too well, HELP

M

Hi All,
we've encountered a problem. we need to supress messages boxes and
enabledefaultreply works spectacularly well except in one instance.
occasionally, when a USB stick is plugged in (a necessary requirement
for this project), a dialog will pop up saying windows needs to
restart in order to use the device... this is fine, except that the
default on this dialog box is yes and we reboot instantly with
enabledefaultreply. Reboots in this manner are not acceptable,
unfortunatly. The usb memory stick not working but windows not
rebooting is acceptable however (as if we always hit the no button).
allowing the user to see this dialog and select yes or no is also not
possible.
We need suggestions, or a fix if anyone using enable defaut reply has
crossed this bridge before. the add hardware message box simply
displaying no as the default button would fix this.
i have posted this to xp embedded forumus even though this is a
standard feature in xp, i have not seen it documented or used outside
these circles (we are also using xp embedded of course).
we have tried removing our restricted user's ability to shut down the
system but since they have the right to add hardware (to use the
memory stick in the first place) they are able to shut down the system
through this dialog.
this is a tough one. thanks in advance!

Hi Mark,

Why don't you completely remove add new hardware wizard?
PnP will work just fine without this component/feature, and new disks will be recognized and used.

Best regards,
Slobodan
