enable DMA

I recently purchased a video card to capture TV analog.
When installed, I get a message that indicates that DMA
for the hard disk (WDC WD800BB-TS0AA0) in not enabled.
When I access the controller it shows the Primary IDE
Channel Properties for "0 Device" to be "PIO Only" and
for "1 Device" as "Does Not Apply". Upon several
attempts, including rebooting, they will not toggle to
Ultra DMA Mode 2-- which are the settings for the
Secondary IDE Channel Properties. The quality of video
is downgraded for TV and Capture. Anybody got a
suggestion?

This can happen if there has been a burst of errors on the device -
things fall back to a slower mode, may end up on PIO and stick.

You need to check for any possible cause of the error - make sure for
example that you are using 80 wire IDE cables and the master on the end
plug (though this ought not to be essential for UDMA 2), and then in Dev
Manager remove (Action - UNinstall) the master level controller, shut
down and let PNP start over.

Presumably there is no device on the slave - hence the 'NA'

Alex, when you say "the master level controller" are you referring to the
Primary or Secondary IDE Controllers, the Intel 82801cam ultra ATA storage
controller (listed with the primary & secondary), or one level up at the IDE
ATA/Atapi Controllers?

Thanks,
Johnny
